Black Sand Diaries: Final Part.
Since it's Black Friday weekend, I thought it might be a good time to dig out my Iceland archives for some “stock clearance”. Let me conclude the Black Sand Diaries after about 7 months since we first set foot on Iceland soil.
As we enter Reykjavik, there was a sudden burst of color (almost too much to handle!) After all the grays and browns of the natural landscapes, the saturated palette in the city took some getting used to. Honestly, both Daniel and I prefer nature to the hustle and bustle. But we do appreciate the fact that everyone was extremely gay-friendly. Our first stops were the must-go's in Reykjavik (which coincidentally starts with the letter ‘H’) - Harpa and the stunning Hallgrímskirkja.
We got to know of KEX Hostel through social media and I wanted a few nice shots of the hostel's common area which was also a cafe. In order to avoid photo-bombers, we were there quite early but that meant I had to forgo the famous KEX Burger on the lunch menu, alas! There was no way in hell I was gonna miss a good cup of coffee too so we paid a visit to Reykjavik Roasters. If you're in the mood for some pizza, there is one famous local pizzeria along Laugavegur. I'm not gonna mention names but you won't miss it.
I have just one bone to pick with Reykjavik - the narrow roads which are strictly jalan sehala (Malay for one-way street). Driving around the capital, especially where the main shopping streets are, was absolutely frustrating for us! Walking would take a much shorter time, sans competition for parking lots.
With all that has been mentioned, Iceland is definitely worth a second trip and I am happy to know that our company actually has flights to Reykjavik which makes it even easier. Guess it's time to start travel-planning for 2017/2018!
