Sweater Weather in Paris.
September always has been and always will be the busiest time for fashion folks. Lucky for Dan and I (and Aisyah who joined us later), we arrived in Paris a fortnight before Fashion Week and avoided bumping into the glamazons. That also gave us plenty of opportunities to take many “editorial” shots without being judged too hard. Plus, Dan and I recently hit our three-year mark so this trip was a good way to celebrate our anniversary.
It was my n-th time visiting Paris and despite it being such a long minute since I was last there (2015?) I felt right at home after landing at Roissy. Nothing had changed - the metro still stank and the tourists still got pickpocketed. We had a total of five days before our next destination so I brought Daniel around the city for the sights and sounds, you know... my usual haunts.
Our apartment was in the heart of the Marais and after dropping off our luggage we went on a hunt for food and coffee. We chanced upon a cute little cafe, Alma, which served chimney cakes (first time I'd heard about these treats.) Nothing to shout about really but their coffee was great. Sadly, when it was time for lunch and dinner, none of the places I loved was opened and apparently a few had ceased operations.
Special shoutout to the folks at Ober Mamma, who prepared some of the best Italian dishes I've eaten. I think it would be good to note that they do not accept reservations so be prepared to stand in line until doors fly open at 6pm for bar/cocktails and expect to be seated from 7pm onwards. Before we properly commenced our celebratory dinner, Dan and I both ordered their reinvented classics - Negroni and a G&T, and we loved every sip! May I also bring your attention to the pâtes à la truffe? Look at the handmade pasta covered in shaved truffles and mascarpone cream. Orgasmic, but ideal for sharing because there was just too much to handle.
Since we had a few days in Paris, we decided to take it slow on the sightseeing. We took a long stroll from Bastille to the Jardin des Plantes and visited the Museum of Paleontology/Zoology and Natural History. There was something very captivating about this place but at the same time quite creepy, I think because we were two of the few people in the museums. The nearby Place Monge and Rue Mouffetard became part of our itinerary as well, we managed to find some very tasty savory tarts and had them for lunch on the go.
Day two was Dan's turn to be tourist af and complete the main points of interest. We woke up at 6am to visit the Eiffel Tower and we were not alone! There were already 4-5 wedding couples at Trocadéro having their photoshoot, pigeons included. Montmartre, the lovely artist district, was next and I think the morning drizzle stopped many tourists from going out early because Sacré-Cœur was also considerably empty, but my main objective was to take a photo with Dan in front of the mur des je t'aime (I love you wall). Cheesy, I know!
We were joined by Aisyah for the next couple of days so that will be in the following blog post. Yes, stay tuned for the pretentious poses in the “lookbook” coming next! Meanwhile, please take a minute to enjoy the rooftop view from our apartment/attic. Can you believe we snagged that place for S$80 a night?!
