Black Sand Diaries: Part Two.

I think it's safe to conclude that the weather in Iceland is and will always be erratic. Snowstorm, clear blue skies, torrential rain, scorching Winter sun, you name it. It could all happen in a single afternoon. That's the beauty of Iceland though, isn't it?

During our next few days, we truly experienced the different shades of Icelandic landscape. As some may know, the landowners had sealed the entrance leading to the Sólheimasandur DC plane wreck so the only way to reach the site was by foot, 40 minutes, one-way. Before you ask, yes it was worth the journey. Heck, we had sleet hitting on our faces on our way there and back, but it's just something that you'd regret not visiting, you know?

The various waterfalls in the South of Iceland were also on our to-do list, and we completed everything in just a few hours - the violent Skógafoss, the ever-spraying Seljalandsfoss and the “secret” waterfall just behind it, Gljúfrabúi. It was my personal favorite, and not all that difficult to get to (it was literally a minute's drive from its neighbor waterfall.) That said, my camera did get a fair share of Icelandic water in exchange for the following photos.

Cute houses and cottages are also a common sight in Iceland. If you don't already know, Icelanders believe in Huldufólk, or elves. Some families even built elf houses for these little mythical beings. We had the pleasure of staying at Stormur Cottages and it was like being in our very own elf house. It had everything we needed! The location was in the middle of nowhere (ok, not really but close enough) and we witnessed our most romantic sunset, not to mention the crazy aurora borealis at night.
