Black Sand Diaries: Part One.

During our time in Iceland, we stayed at several guesthouses and our experience was more than pleasant. First on the list was Lambastadir Guesthouse near Selfoss town, and putting up there made it extremely easy to explore the Golden Circle (which we didn't complete.)

To be honest, touristy spots aren't really our thing and we wanted to go off the beaten track. We only covered Strokkur Geysir and the Þingvellir National Park, both attractions were pretty underwhelming to say the least but it was a been-there-done-that thing. I was more excited taking close-up shots of the Icelandic horses, really!

On the same day we also headed West in search of Kirkjufell and the less explored Snæfellsnes peninsula. The drive was pretty long, around five hours, but the view on the West coast made it all worthwhile. As we went during the end (if any) of Winter, there was constant juxtaposition of contrasting landscapes (snow with greenery.) Everything along the entire peninsula was like a set that Wes Anderson would use - little towns, tiny churches, colorful lighthouses. Kirkjufell was touch-and-go, but our little adventure on single lane dirt roads to the Svörtuloft Lighthouse was the bomb!

Don't let the warm colors of the photos fool you though, it WAS cold while we were there.
