Huat The Fatt.

It's that time of the year again - people wearing excessive red clothing, awkward conversations with distant cousins, and a ton of snacks that reward you with pimples. Oh, I'm not sure about you but that's my annual Chinese New Year affair.

After I started flying, I seldom have the luxury to be in town for reunion dinners and the various celebrations. So I'm always thankful for time spent in Singapore with loved ones, especially during the festive season.

Just a few days ago, a non-Chinese colleague asked me why Singaporean families need reunion dinners if they see each other so often. I guess she didn't understand that some kids move out (or overseas, if you will) and parents simply want to take this time to catch up with their children. For most households, it is also a chance for pioneers to show off their culinary skills and share secret recipes with their descendants.

I hope the long weekend is coming along well for everyone, and be sure not to overindulge in drinking and snacking!
